Losing Face is a story of friendship, tragedy, identity and triumph told in two voices through communication over the Internet.
Shy, musical Cass and streetwise Em meet with the boys. Cass is thrilled when Spider chooses her to ride with him, but becomes petrified when he drives recklessly.
After a terrible crash, witnessed by Em, Cass is left with severe facial scarring. Both girls are traumatised, but Spider is unscathed. Despite having to undergo painful surgery, Cass still has strong feelings for him.
On eventually returning to school, Cass is taunted and nicknamed “Scarface”. Em tries to protect her, but it raises memories of her own childhood abuse. Cass suffers a series of setbacks and at a particularly low point the girls make a pact to conquer the past and claim their own future.
We follow their stories as they try to comes to terms with all that has happened to them. Major challenges arise, including exam performances, a television programme about facial scarring, and dealing with their own emotions and relationships.
